Cinema: 6,7 Million MAD Granted to 29 Festival Organizers

The Commission for Supporting the Organization of Cinematographic Festivals met on March 3-4 in Rabat and approved financial aid totaling 6,770,000 Moroccan Dirhams MAD for 29 festivals and events.

The Commission reviewed 31 applications for support and met with organizers of festivals and events who presented and defended their projects, according to a statement from the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM).

The Foundation of the Tetouan International Mediterranean Film Festival, organizer of this cinematic event, will receive financial support of 1,300,000 DH for the festival’s 30th edition, while the International African Film Festival, initiated by the Foundation of the same name, will benefit from 1,200,000 DH for its upcoming edition.

The Association for Cultural and Artistic Animation in the Southern Provinces will receive 700,000 DH for the Dakhla International Film Festival.

The Meknes International Animation Film Festival (FICAM), organized by the Aïcha Foundation, will be allocated 600,000 DH, an amount equivalent to that granted to the International Documentary Festival, initiated by the Association for Culture and Education through Audiovisual Media.

The Casablanca International Independent Film Festival, organized by the Moroccan Center for Image Education, will receive 300,000 DH.

The Casablanca Arab Film Festival, led by the Imtidad Association for Culture and Development, will receive 250,000 DH, while the Assa Association for Cinema and Theater, organizer of the National Assa Sahara Cinema Festival, will be granted 200,000 DH.

Additionally, a budget of 150,000 DH will be allocated to the Talassemtane Association for Environment and Development (ATED) to organize the International Environmental Film Festival.

The Commedia Workshop for Cinematic Creativity will receive 140,000 DH to organize the International Short Film Festival, while a sum of 120,000 DH will be granted to both the Rabat Comedy International Film Festival (initiated by the Moroccan Center for Development Initiatives – CMID) and the National Cinematographic Festival “Camera Kids” (organized by the Moroccan Association for Audiovisual and Educational Theater Development).

A sum of 100,000 DH will be dedicated to the Al Hoceïma International Film Festival (Rif Culture and Cinema Foundation Association), the Casablanca Nour Festival (Nour Association for Cultures and Arts), and the International Amateur Film Festival (Art Message Association for Development and Creativity).

The Amazigh Moroccan Cinema Festival “TAFSUT” and the Cap Spartel International Film Festival, organized respectively by the Anarouz Association for Development and Cultural Communication and the Moroccan Observatory of Image and Media, will each receive 80,000 DH.

The support commission also allocated 60,000 DH to the Student Cinema Creations Festival (Farah Association for Education, Culture, and Arts), the International Real Cinema Festival (Lions of the North Association for Culture and Arts), and the Rif Amazigh Film Festival (Cinema Workshop Association).

Furthermore, 50,000 DH has been reserved for: The 3rd Safi School Cinema Festival (Ciné-Saf Association for Art and Culture); The 6th Dcheira International Cinema Festival (Ayouz Association for Culture, Art, and Development); The 3rd Atlas International Film Festival (Atlas International Film Festival Association); The 13th Chefchaouen International Children and Youth Film Festival (eponymous association)

The same amount (50,000 DH) has been allocated to: The 10th Agora Spring Festival of Cinema and Philosophy (Friends of Philosophy Association); The 3rd National Azan Educational Film Festival (Dramatic Association for Artistic Creativity); The 2nd Women and Children’s Cinema Festival (Banssa Foundation for Development and Culture); The 6th Joussour Festival of Cinematic Creativity (eponymous association); The White Night of Cinema and the Right to Education (Mediterranean Encounters Association for Cinema and Human Rights).

The Commission for supporting the organization of cinematographic festivals convened under the chairmanship of Mrs. Khadija Alami Laâroussi, with members including Sabah El Fayssali, Malika Maielainin, Asmae Krimech, Imane Mesbahi, Ahmed Aafach, Bouaâza El Bouchtaoui, and Mohammed El Missi in attendance.
