The Ministry of Justice contributes to the international debate on environmental protection
Legal and environmental experts, researchers, and other government representatives convene for the 4th World Conference on Environmental Law.

As part of the Kingdom of Morocco’s commitment to environmental protection and the promotion of sustainable development, the Ministry of Justice participated in the 4th World Conference on Environmental Law, organized by the World Commission on Environmental Law of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), under the theme: «Integrated Legal Protection of Air, Ocean and Land ».
Hosted at the Hassan II International Center for Environmental Training, this high-level meeting brought together a wide range of legal and environmental experts, researchers, government representatives, as well as international and regional organizations, with the aim of strengthening the international legal framework for environmental protection in the face of increasingly urgent climate challenges.
The Ministry of Justice was represented by Rima Lablaili, Director of Cooperation and Communication, who delivered a speech on behalf of Abdellatif Ouahbi, Minister of Justice. In her address, she recalled that «protecting the environment is no longer a choice or a legislative luxury; it is now a legal, ethical, and political requirement, dictated by our collective responsibility towards present and future generations». She highlighted Morocco’s strong commitment to environmental law, particularly through the consolidation of the national legislative framework, the strengthening of the capacities of legal actors, and active cooperation with relevant national and international institutions.
Rima Lablaili also emphasized the significant progress of Moroccan environmental legislation in recent years, covering areas as diverse as biodiversity, water resources, waste management, air pollution, and the fight against climate change. These reforms, she noted, «demonstrate Morocco’s willingness to align its legal texts with international standards and to fully integrate environmental justice into its overall vision of justice ». She also expressed a shared concern: «What alarms us today is that environmental issues seem to be gradually losing their place in international political priorities, even as the planet has never needed us more ».She added, «There can be no lasting peace on an exhausted planet, nor equitable development in a distressed environment ».
According to her, Morocco’s participation in this event is a valuable opportunity to exchange good practices, draw inspiration from innovative experiences, and affirm the Kingdom’s position as a committed, supportive, and forward-looking actor.
The conference, which spans three days, features a rich scientific program, including panels, workshops, and high-level plenary sessions, addressing topics such as international law for the protection of oceans and the atmosphere, the integration of climate justice into public policies, the fundamental links between human rights and the environment, and the strengthening of legal and institutional capacities in the face of global ecological crises.
