The Cannes Film Festival has announced that French actress Juliette Binoche will serve as the President of the Jury for its 2025 edition, marking a significant moment in the festival’s history as she succeeds another woman, Greta Gerwig. This is only the second instance of a woman following another woman in this role, with the last occurrence in 1966. Binoche, who first attended the festival in 1985, expressed her excitement and gratitude for the position, reflecting on her journey in the film industry. Throughout her career, she has been featured in several Palme d’Or contenders and has won prestigious awards, including a Golden Bear and a Palme d’Or. The festival acknowledges her contributions to cinema and her advocacy for education, human rights, and ecology. The 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 13 to May 24, 2025.
