The Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the U.S., is considering Cincinnati as a potential host city, with a decision expected to benefit the local economy significantly. If selected, Cincinnati would host the festival for a decade starting in 2027, potentially generating over $132 million in economic impact. This event is anticipated to boost local small businesses, especially bars and restaurants, during typically slow months like January and February. Cincinnati has recently been recognized as one of the top cities for filmmakers by MovieMaker Magazine due to the successful premiere of several major productions. Mayor Aftab Pureval emphasized that winning the bid could instantly establish Cincinnati as a global hub for international filmmaking, aligning with the city’s long-standing investment in the arts. Additionally, an economic impact study noted that the arts generated $1.6 billion for the local economy from 2019 to 2023. Cincinnati will also host the Association of Film Commissioners International’s global Cineposium in September.
