“Family and Social Cohesion Tested by Global Transformations” is the title of a collective work published by the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, resulting from the proceedings of its 49th session held on May 8 and 9, 2024 in Rabat.

This publication, released in 2025 in the “Sessions” collection, extends the reflection initiated by the Academy on the profound transformations of the contemporary world and their impacts on the lives of individuals, families, and societies, the Academy stated in a press release.

“The work, published in French and Arabic, explores a theme of universal scope: the family and forms of social cohesion in an era marked by globalization, digital technology, climate crises, shifting values, and identity recompositions,” explains the press release, adding that the publication “questions how societies confront these upheavals while seeking to preserve the bonds of solidarity, transmission, and belonging that unite them.”

This work brings together Moroccan and foreign thinkers, researchers, and writers, who cross their disciplines (philosophy, law, sociology, literature, psychology, anthropology, or education sciences) to offer a comprehensive reading of family and social transformations, the same source specifies.

Quoted in the press release, Abdeljalil Lahjomri, Permanent Secretary of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, recalled the importance of the Message addressed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the members of the Academy, on the occasion of the opening of its first session under its new structure.

In this Message, the Sovereign emphasized that “contemporary societies live at the pace of rapid and intertwined socio-economic and cultural transformations. To evolve, they must remain open to change and not subject to inertia. In this regard, the accumulation and integration of knowledge and the creation of bridges between scientific disciplines constitute the main challenge of any virtuous progress that, at once, preserves the nation’s identity, serves as a bulwark against potential dangers and missteps, cultivates its diversity and intellectual pluralism in their constructive aspects. It goes without saying that the development of societies is consubstantial with intellectual and cultural renewal and the existence of a climate conducive to the production of knowledge. And for such an environment to prosper, it must necessarily contribute to the civilizational dynamic.”

This vision runs throughout the work, which places the family at the heart of an inquiry into modernity, the diversity of life models, and the tensions between tradition and innovation, notes the press release, adding that this research work goes beyond merely observing contemporary crises to propose pathways for reconstructing the social bond based on knowledge, culture, justice, and solidarity.
