Morocco has won 34 medals at the World Athletics Championships since the first edition in 1983, including 12 gold, 13 silver, and 9 bronze.

The country missed the podium only four times: in 1993, 2009, 2011, and 2013.

The most prolific edition was Seville in 1999, marked by five medals and a 5th place worldwide.

Hicham El Guerrouj is the most decorated Moroccan athlete, with six medals, including four golds in the 1,500 m, followed by Soufiane El Bakkali with five medals, including two titles in the 3,000 m steeplechase.

Nezha Bidouane also remains an iconic figure with two world titles in the 400 m hurdles.

Said Aouita paved the way as early as 1983 by becoming the first Arab medalist, before other champions such as Jaouad Gharib, Hasna Benhassi, Abdelaati Iguider, and Fatima Ezzahra Gardadi enriched the record.

These performances confirm Morocco’s place among the great nations of world athletics.
