Tourism: The Fès-Meknès Region Seeks to Attract the Andalusian Market
A delegation from the Andalusian Federation of Travel Agencies (FAAV), representing approximately 1,600 travel agencies across Andalusia, recently conducted an exploratory visit to the Fès-Meknès region, highlighted by a meeting with the Regional Tourism Council (CRT).

This initiative, carried out in collaboration with ONMT (Moroccan National Tourist Office), falls under the implementation of the Fès-Meknès Regional Tourism Council’s (CRT) action plan. It aims to establish connections with Andalusian tourism professionals to strengthen tourist flows between the two regions.
The delegation’s visit, led by Luis Arroyo, president of the FAAV, included a meeting with the executive committee of Andalusia’s Travel Agencies Federation, followed by discussions with the Fès-Meknès CRT’s executive board. This opportunity allowed the regional council to showcase the area’s tourism potential to the Andalusian delegation.
According to Ahmed Sentissi, president of the Fès-Meknès CRT, this initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to boost the Fès-Meknès destination and diversify the region’s source markets for tourists.
The exploratory visit’s itinerary featured tours of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Fès Medina, the Imperial City of Meknès, and the province of Moulay Yacoub, renowned for its thermal springs and wellness tourism potential.
This prospecting mission enables Andalusian professionals to evaluate firsthand the tourism assets of Fès-Meknès, paving the way for potential partnerships and the development of new tourism products tailored to Spanish clientele.
Sentissi emphasized that this visit builds on existing cooperation between the two regions, notably following a prior visit by the Mayor of Granada, reflecting a shared commitment to enhancing tourism and economic ties between Morocco and Andalusia.
He added that the FAAV, as the representative body for Andalusian travel agencies, is a strategic partner for developing tourism in Fès-Meknès, noting Andalusia’s importance as a key source market for Moroccan tourism due to geographic proximity and historical ties.
The meeting also addressed air transport connectivity between the two regions and opportunities arising from the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
Both parties discussed establishing a long-term strategic partnership, stressing that this prospecting visit marks only the beginning of broader collaboration between Moroccan and Andalusian tourism stakeholders.
According to Fès-Meknès CRT officials, multiple promotional and cooperative activities are already scheduled through the end of 2025, demonstrating a shared commitment to intensifying tourism exchanges between Fès-Meknès and Andalusia.
