52 Economic Concentration Operations Authorized in the Automotive Sector
The latest Sectoral Automobile Monograph published by the Competition Council reveals that 52 economic concentration operations (ECOs) were notified and authorized by the Competition Council between 2021 and 2023.

The Competition Council authorized 52 economic concentration operations (ECOs) in the automotive sector between 2021 and 2023.
The analysis conducted identified the main trends and market dynamics by applying statistical methods to the available data. Exclusive controls and joint ventures accounted for 86% of the authorized ECOs during this period. Exclusive controls were the most numerous, with 34 operations, representing 65% of the total. Despite a decrease in 2023 compared to 2022, they significantly dominated the sector.
These operations mainly concerned classic automotive industry themes, notably automotive interior and seating equipment, as well as automotive components and parts for the automotive aftermarket, along with manufacturing and validation processes.
Joint ventures accounted for a total of 11 creations. After an increase in 2021, their number stabilized in 2022 and 2023.
The analysis of international collaborations revealed the involvement of 13 countries in these co-creations, with a notable intensity of collaborations between Germany and Sweden. This study sheds light on the evolving dynamics of the automotive sector and the strategic positioning of players through these economic concentration operations.
